German Unification: Another Fruit of the European Integration

“German Unification was made possible only within the framework of the European integration. Germany could regain the stability and peace by taking on a leading role in the integration process in Europe”, stressed Walter KLITZ, Resident Representative of FNF Korea during the “EU Winter Camp 2010”, organized by the EU Center at Pusan National University from Jan. 26 to 27.

winter campInvited by the center, Mr. Klitz shed light on the European Union from German perspective with a special focus on the benefits that Germany has enjoyed in the course of this unique type of the institutionalized regional integration process.  Not to mention the economic benefits of Germany that 65 % of the German exports go to its fellow member states of the EU, Germany owes much of its biggest political achievement to the EU: The European integration facilitated the German reconciliation with its neighbours and the confidence building, which was a fundamental prerequisite for its unification.

The Winter Camp was attended by about eighty active undergraduate and graduate students in Pusan.
